Tomorrow morning I will be traveling to Washington D.C.! I am so excited to visit the museums and memorials in D.C. I've always loved history and have always wanted to spend a day there appreciating some of the most important historical figures and events.
I will be spending a week down there before going back to school in a couple of weeks. I am flying on Spirit Airlines because I really wasn't trying to spend a million dollars on a plane ticket and baggage fees. Spirit has really low fares, but everything else aside from the ticket costs extra. They only allow a personal item (purse, small bag, etc.) on the plane for free... even a carry on costs extra. So, I decided to pack for a week in just a backpack.
This is going to be quite challenging for me, because every time I travel I over-pack. I pack like two outfits for every day, a ton of shoes, the whole works, just to have options. So here goes nothing.
Step 1: Pull out the clothes you NEED ~ Pull out the right amount of undergarments and tops, remember, you can re-wear pants so you don't need a different pair each day. Also, if you need a heavier pair of shoes or jacket, plan to wear it to the airport rather than packing it. I always wear the same airport outfit there and back, which keeps me comfy and saves space.
Step 2: Roll, don't fold ~ Rolling clothes saves so much space! You can even roll things like socks into tops and pants to save more space! Be sure to roll them as tight as you can, and if it keeps unrolling try an elastic.
Step 3: Pack your bag ~ Once you have everything you need rolled and ready to go, it is time to pack your bag. Start by taking the bigger / heavier items and placing them at the bottom (if you put them at the top the bag may not close). If you're packing an extra pair of shoes, stick each side on the sides of your bag or put them at the bottom under your clothes.
Step 4: Toiletries ~ If you're a makeup junkie like me, traveling lightly is difficult. Pack the necessities! Go for a smaller makeup bag than what you'd typically go for to make sure you don't overpack. When it comes to hair and body products, you can typically buy small travel sizes at the drugstore. You can even wait to get to where you're going and buy them there!
I hope this helped if you're traveling on a budget, or just need some quick packing ideas! If you have any questions feel free to send me a message on Instagram or Twitter, or visit the Contact page on the site and send one there!
