How I Got Twitter Famous

I know what you're thinking. How in the hell does this girl have so many followers? Well... it's hard to explain and kind of complicated, so pay attention.

It all started my sophomore year of high school. At the time, I had about 2,500 followers on Twitter. I was just tweeting random things, quotes, memes, so on and so forth. Then, I got a message from a girl who had a few thousand more followers than I did. She asked me if I wanted to join a group of people to help get my Twitter stats up. Of course I said yeah, mostly because I was bored and figured I would give it a try.

I was added to a group chat with maybe 20 other people on this app called We Chat. Everyone had between 1k and 10k followers, some had even more. There was a whole system going on how to gain followers, likes, and retweets. We would do this thing called "runs" where we would all send our @ names to the group chat, and go on everyone's pages and retweet their 3 most recent likes. All of our likes were our own tweets so that what we wanted retweeted would be easier to find.

Another huge part of this system, and how we all gained followers so quickly, is called "massing." After doing runs, when our pages were active and people were liking and retweeting our stuff, we would go to our notifications and follow everyone who recently liked and/or retweeted our tweets. Due to the fact that they had recently liked or retweeted meant they were most likely to follow back quickly.

After doing this for a month maybe, we got so many people in the group that we switched over to Telegram and continued the journey there. I honestly do not remember how many followers I had at this point. I was gaining a few hundred every day from running and massing. I went from 2500 when I started sophomore year, to now almost 60k.

My account, @_JayJayJetPlane, is still active (go give me a follow), and I try to tweet as much as possible, but I'm just not into it as much as I used to be. In a good month, I can have millions of Twitter impressions, but in a bad one I can have just a few thousand. It all depends on what I tweet and how people react to it.

I also have over 80k followers on Tumblr. This was totally unplanned and I honestly have no idea how it happened. I just kept posting and re-posting and kept gaining followers. I barely... like bare-ly even touch the Tumblr app nowadays.

I don't normally talk about my Twitter or Tumblr pages because I can't stand when people tell me I "buy my followers" or that my followers are "fake." As you can see... my Twitter audit score is 98%. The fake followers represent bot and spam accounts that randomly followed me. As you can also see, most accounts (even those of celebrities) have fake followers. Kim Kardashian, for example, has nearly 60 million followers, of which almost half of them are fake.

My biggest advice to people who want to gain followers on anything, no matter what social media platform it is, is to be yourself. I didn't gain followers from being a whole other personality on social media. I used my own pictures, my own name, and so on. Also, don't think gaining followers who don't even know you will give you some sort of self-fulfillment. You need to be happy with yourself, without needing other people to like you.

Oh and be careful if you try using any of the techniques I talked about to gain followers. Twitter has cracked down on Twitter groups like these because you aren't supposed to technically do a lot of that, but there are work arounds. If you do too much too quickly, your account can get locked, suspended, and possibly deleted.

Until next time...
